Flying pigs and a duck

Postby christiand on Sat Feb 26, 2005 8:11 pm

Hi all,

I know these pigs are all out of focus, however they can fly.
I'd really like to ask you for advice: how could I have gotten them in focus ?
Oh, and there' s a duck. Why ?, because.

Cheers

help with flying pigs

Postby christiand on Sun Feb 27, 2005 7:59 pm

Hi,

I've posted two photos of pigs diving into a pool of water in this thread.
I have got everything in focus but the pigs.
Could someone please help me with the question about how to best focus with those pig shots ?
What D70 focus setting, technique or procedure would you suggest to get these pigs in focus.

Thanks a lot.

Regards

CD,
What did you use? AF-S or C?

Birddog114,

I used continuous AF !
Should I use nearest subject instead or manually focus on the anticipated area ?

IMO, I'll use nearest subject but manually focus on the anticipated area is also helped.

We liked the pigs too

Postby ru32day on Sun Mar 06, 2005 11:19 pm

We love the flying pigs as well.

Here are our efforts (although taken with a Nikon 995, as we weren't going to take our precious into all that dust and bustle).

You'll see that, where the pig becomes more airborne (ie picks up speed), we had difficulty with focus as well - with the 995, you really have no choice but to try and pre-focus on the anticipated spot, as it's much slower than the D70. For example, in attempting to take photos of the pig racing, we have one that's far too early, and three of empty track after they'd passed  BTW, I know these are underexposed, but I didn't think they were really worth the effort to fix - just posted them to show that you weren't the only one to suffer the "flying pig out of focus" problem ... and we were stone cold sober, officer, I swear.

Did you also notice, that in the farmyard, there was a photographer taking photos of children with baby animals (set up with bales of hay etc). They were charging quite an amount for each photo - looked about 10 x 8. Anyway, they were using a laptop, a D70 and the kit lens. Even quite late in the day, they weren't short of takers, either.

The pig shots are fantastic - but you should know to set your dial on the camera to P for Pigs 8)
