Full frame fisheye lens for 20D

Does anyone know what's available in terms of full frame fish eye lenses that would fit a Canon 20D, that is, a fisheye without the circular "vignette" and an EF mount (Canon or 3rd-party brand)?

I'm interested in tracking down a cheap 2nd hand one to play around with, if such a thing exists.

Cheers,
- Rog

An non cheap but excellent lens is the Sigma 8mm fisheye. if you are after cheap there is a penang (?) 8mm on ebay for about $180, but there are none listed at the moment.

There's also a Zenitar Fisheye lens which is often for sale on eBay. I doubt the quality is up there with the Sigma, but it costs a lot less. Usually around the $160 mark.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. I don't know who Gary is so that doesn't mean much to me.

Perhaps I've not been here long enough to get it. :?

Gary is GStark founder of the forum and a renowned non lover of Sigma - and I should know being the Sigma chairman on the forum

Sheepie, Chris,

Actually, I believe that the quality of the Zenitar fisheye is really quite something else. They've probably taken an eye from a mullet and mounted it in genuine plastic just to be sure.

It'd be struggling for translucence, let alone clarity and acuity, whereas at least a Stigma can be focussed. ;)

Glen, where's Olga??

Hehe

The Zenitar doesn't come from a country which is known for excellent quality consumer products.

It is only 16mm not 8mm.

I realise that. He asked about a fisheye lens, and not a "8mm fisheye lens".

A 16mm fisheye lens is still a fisheye lens, right?

The Zenitar 16mm is quite a nice and cheap fisheye.

The problem is with the crop factor of the 20D, you will not get the full fisheye effect. For example, if your fisheye is a full frame rectilinear fisheye that is supposed to provide a 180 deg field of view, it will not be a full 180 deg field of view on the 20D.

For cropped sensors, the only rectinlinear fisheye providing 180 deg field of view from corner to corner is the 10.5mm DX Fisheye Nikkor.

Well, when I actually reread the original post, it says 'without' circular vignetting, I though it said 'with'. So the 8mm is out of the question and the 16mm is back in the picture.

Again I have the Sigma 15mm fisheye which produces some nice curved images but with no real fisheye effect unless you get really close to the subject. It is a pretty good lens and mine is sharp but I don't much now that I have the 8mm.

This was taken with the 15mm and as you can see, naff all curvature.

And this is the 8mm with the sides cropped off

Thanks for the info, all. The crop factor certainly does become an issue here.

Petal, I'm curious, do you have all those lenses just for baby shots? :P
