Man thats fast !http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :B:SS:AU:1
Sometime i wish ide gone down canon road, but i guess as long as i get there it doesnt matter ... Perfect for a 'available light/indoors ' PJ. So many ideas. So little time.

Did he call the NOCT "common" ?????
I wish ! That Nikkor 58f1.0 must be rare - i cant find a pic of it online ... So many ideas. So little time.

Nikkor 58 Noct (Noctural) is 1.2, I have one, you may come and play with it next time when you are available at the mini meet. Birddog114

Yup
that 1.0 is seductive I am seriously thinking of buying a canon DSLR backup just to use these wide aperture lenses. probably a 20D next year either that or a Leica with a f1.0 lens
I wonder if that seller is correct? I have never heard or seen anything about a 58 f1, there was a 85 f1 for special purposes which was adapted for cameras, maybe he is pulling our legs?

Interesting comments on the website Chris. They also all refer to the 58 NOCT 1.2, that ebay seller is the first reference I have seen to a Nikon 58 f1.

Both Nikon and Canon can make all these fast exotic lenses, but they come with a exotic price.
The problem is there are not many people out there willing to fork out the money when these exotic lenses are offered. That is why lenses like the Canon discontinued the 50 f1.0 and 200 f2.0 and Nikon no longer produced a Noct lens or 80mm repro-Nikkor
Andrew, have you heard of the 58 f1? I am sure Birddy's is the fastest at f1.2.

If you can afford it, grab and keep it for yourself as It's a rare and collectible items.
Not so many of them around lately, especially with the Nikkor 58/1.2 Noct. You'll be surprised with its quality build same as its produced photos at nearly 0 lux. Birddog114

The 50 f1 is no longer in production, and is a bit soft wide open. But an awesome lens.
The other awesome lens that Canon stopped making was the 200 f1.8 (not f2). Both of these lenses sell s/hand for enoromous sums. I don't think the 50 f1 is the fastest 50, I believe there is a 50 f0.95 made by someone? Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes. http://www.dionm.net/
Indeed there was, and it was Canon (way before the EOS series of cameras). Camera Exchange in Melbourne used to have one in their window. It was an S-mount lens for a rangefinder (thus the eBay claim of fastest SLR lens is probably correct) introduced in 1961: http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/lens/s/data/s_50_095.html
Dave, I am sure you are right about the seller being incorrect. I think the guy has 630 feedbacks, even if half are sales he is doing a bit more than selling lenses from his private collection. All his sales are private which is unusual, plus he talks of a 58 f1 NOCT Nikkor which I am sure someone here would have heard of, if it exists.

Canon makes a 85 f1.2 that looks like a VW headlight.

f2 is a fast lens but it's not a damm fast! Nikkor and Canon have more fast lenses than this. Birddog114

Oh, I realise that, doesn't change the fact that it was a nice lense. Gotta remember, this was for the OM system, so it's a bit older then some of the other lenses you guys might be talking about Nikon, Canon, Pentax... they're all cameras folks.
How old is it? The Nikkor 58 f1.2 Noct was original released in 1978. Birddog114

Good question, don't know http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/ha ... /index.htm There's some info if you're interested, can't give you an answer though. Nikon, Canon, Pentax... they're all cameras folks.
Cool... how much did it cost though? Googling rodenstock, they made a lot of fast lenses, what mounts did they use? Nikon, Canon, Pentax... they're all cameras folks.
