Actually, you still have metering. In Manual
mode the camera's meter will work. Because the camera has no way of controlling the lens' aperture, Tv-priority and P
modes do not work. But Av-priority should work fine. You set the lens aperture and the camera will set the shutter speed to suit.
If an adapter doesn't allow this then it's not triggering the microswitch that lets the camera know a lens is attached. This can be worked around, but good adapters will do this for you.
I'm actually considering one of these adapters, and the reason is that there are some speciality lenses available in the F-mount. Not your usual lenses, but the funky UV-Nikkors are ones that spring to mind...
But in general I would agree with Gary that you're better off getting a lens with the appropriate electronic linkages.
