hey guys i picked up a nikon in japan as i know the warranty risks, and a mate of mine who is interested in photography wants me to source a canon for him. i have tried searching the site without success, and just want a quick low-down on what exactly i should expect warranty wise if buying in japan and getting issues resolved in australia if possible??
Cheers!

yep, afaik its the same as nikon- warranty applies only in the country from which the product was sourced/purchased.
unless your mate buys the camera from a store in australia (registered ABN) that imports the gear via non-canon AU methods.
there was a thread about it not too long ago, from white rhino or ronza i think.. *scratches head*

I get the impression that if you have a receipt from a B&M store with a stamped warranty card Canon will honour that wherever you are - that way duty free & OE buyers get warranty. But I can't give you a link to where they say that, sorry.
