Discounts can not be had on 5d and greater :(

Discounts on lenses dont come in cheaper than buying one from b&h either :(

I wanted a 5D and some lenses. One of my client works for Canon so I was just thinking about picking up a 5D.

Yes they do.

A pro photographer mate of mine ( Nikon User ) has a mate in Canon. The discount was enough that he couldn't talk him into buying Nikon equipment. :D

I dont' know the details of the discount, but I take it wasn't too shabby from what he said.

Cheers.

Canon staff discounts are very very very generous and CAN be used on the 5D. From memory the 5D came out to ~$3500 when it was still selling in the shops for close to $5k.

There is a limit of 4 new item purchases and 4 refurb/return item purchases per year. A friend of mine used to work for Canon and got me a cheap flash for my camera :)

A friend used to rep for canon, and contacted the nsw manager on my behalf about 1dmk2n 5d 70-200 2.8 is

Was told that he cant do anything for them, but would organise something through a local dealer...

Perhaps he had used his quota or something...

From talking to people I know who work for them, the deep discounts are specific to the area people work in and are strictly for personal use. You can probably get retail-buy-price if you know someone who sells the stuff more easily than you could find someone who works for Canon who was willing to do you their staff deals. In my experience, anyway.

I've bought several items through Canon employees and got about a 50% discount over retail. They do however have to sign a waiver saying that it is only for themselves or immediate family.

Peolpe have been fired for selling to friends.

Also, all the paper work is in their name which doesn't help when all your stuff gets stolen and you are trying to claim on insurance....
