went to pick up my 300mm lens from Teds in sydney and noticed the Mark III on display, ohh dear i want 3 please mr canon, everything about its is perfect but the thing that tipped me over was definately the view finder and AF Point Selector, its so damn HUGE!!! in comparison to say the 30D, had a look at a 1d2n as well and well i would definately put another 1500-2000k on top for the mark III, they said for pre-orders about august, for off the floor stock around Nov, they have sold 12 already at $6500

Yeh, we had a Canon pro rep pop in to the studio yesterday arvo. Being a Nikon man myself I spent a good hour telling her everything that bugs the shit out of me RE Canon's and she just kept saying: yes, we knew about that and it's been addressed, and you know what? Almost all of my issues have been sorted with this release. It has a nice big clear screen, the eyepiece sits proud so your nose doesn't rub on the screen (too much), the buttons make more sense (still not as intuitive as a Nikon [and yes I do use both extensively]) and man you should hear the thing shoot! Ratatatatatatatata! It's insane at 10fps, and there's a Paparazzi friendly "Silent" mode that stops the mirror from flapping around so you can get sneaky pictures thru people's windows!

Would I make the switch? Not yet. $6500 is a lot of money and as nice as the MkIII files look (check out robgalbraith's preview) I couldn't handle the pain that holding this lug of a body (in landscape orientation) causes my (probably!) feeble little hands! =]

Apparently we've got one coming in tomorrow for us to play with for a couple of days.

Had another play today. As big as the LCD is, it's bloody blurry. It's like looking at an old low-res monitor - that kind of blurry.

When you zoom in to check focus you can't actually tell whether you've nailed it or not. That renders this camera completely useless to me (and prolly lot's of other chimpaholics!).

Surprising, what res is the LCD, you'd think they would of packed heaps of pixels in there, especially given the "Live ViewFinder feature".

I would have thought so too. I'm comparing it to the D200 and here are the stats:

Nikon D200 2.5" LCD = 230,000 pixels
Canon Eos 1D MkIII 3" LCD = 230,000 pixels

So there you have it. It runs at the same res as the D200 which is half an inch smaller - hence the blurriness. Lame. Seriously lame IMHO.

Same LCD has their IXUS range (my wifes P&S has a 3" 230, 000 pixel LCD too, that's taking the piss a little. Of topic but reminds me a little of HP, they have their top notch Blade system with a 2" LCD stolen of their home printer/scanner combo.
