Possibly you all know about this new Tamron lens soon to be release for Nikon and later for Canon. I am referring to the new AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO. I guess the advantage of a lense like this is avoiding the inconvinience of having to take with you several lenses and then having to change them risking dust on the sensor.

The inconvenience however is that you're stuck with an inferior lens at all focal lengths! :P I hope this new version better than my (1998 version) Tamron 28-300, which quite frankly sucks arse!

Interesting that it matches the Canon lens for focal range but not aperture. Pity it's a really good range for full frame rather than crop cameras, since I can't see most full frame camera owners opting to save $1000 on the lens after laying out $3000+ on the body. Never know, i suppose, maybe they're chasing the film users.

Good to see that they've joined the "stabilised lenses" bandwagon though, hopefully they'll release something useful with that in it. Viz, a fast telephoto zoom or a competitor to the nikon 18-200 so that Canon users can play too. Or maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy a D300, 18-200, 200-400 collection :D
