Canon 40D firmware

Hi Folks,

Scouring the net I stumbled on a few threads so I thought I'd just post a non-technical summary.....

Seems some of the newer 40D's (such a sexy little number don't ya think?) have been produced with a 1.0.4 version firmware - the original was 1.0.3. It would appear that there is no update from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 though. But a number of folks have reported an error in the way the new firmware causes the CR2 files to be written - apparently it leaves some info out. The result is that the files don't open in ACR. There is a bit of argy-bargy about whose problem it is :) Adobe are working on a fix, and there are some non-Canon utilities to fix the CR2 files.

I would be very surprised if there was not a public update to 1.0.5 firmware from Canon - just speculation...If anyone hears anything I'd be keen to know.

Thanks.

Been playing around taking some shots and I think they have been playing with the LCD screen in this update.

I was previously on 1.0.3 and was finding it VERY difficult to judge focus from the LCD - It was just too fuzzy - although live view was okay.

With firmware 1.0.5 it seems to be much better - just took some shots of the cat  and the sharpest shots actually looked sharp on the LCD.

I'm still on 1.0.3, and ask if anyone has had any regrets re 1.0.5? I'm interested to know if the reported PP problems of 1.0.4 have been addressed.
TIA

See what you think about the sharpness of the LCD before and after.

I'd be interested to hear your experience

I updated mine a bit before dviv - my initial reaction was "wait a minute, the screen looks better", then I came back and saw dviv's post :)

Firmware has been good, no problems at all, and curious to know if the screen seems better for others too :o
