Canon 40D firmware

Hi Folks,
Scouring the net I stumbled on a few threads so I thought I'd just post a non-technical summary.....
Seems some of the newer 40D's (such a sexy little number don't ya think?) have been produced with a 1.0.4 version firmware - the original was 1.0.3. It would appear that there is no update from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 though. But a number of folks have reported an error in the way the new firmware causes the CR2 files to be written - apparently it leaves some info out. The result is that the files don't open in ACR. There is a bit of argy-bargy about whose problem it is Adobe are working on a fix, and there are some non-Canon utilities to fix the CR2 files.
I would be very surprised if there was not a public update to 1.0.5 firmware from Canon - just speculation...If anyone hears anything I'd be keen to know.
Thanks.
