Anyone heard any news? just saw a it over on DPReview. sits below the 450D in the lineup. Thinking might be good for an IR conversion!!
As well as a cheap leave in your car body (if it is cheap!)

I'll think about it when it's available.

If you want a spare body, a secondhand 20D, 30D, 350D would do nicely I imagine. Not sure how much a secondhand 20D is worth but it can't be much nowadays and it's still a great camera.

Well the embargo on the info passed on tuesday, so there are some details.

It sounds like a 400D with LiveView but only 7pt AF. It is expected to retail (Canon Aust) for under AU$1000.

It seems to be competing perhaps with the D40x range...

Nikon will have to look at the D40, maybe bump down the D60 and introduce a D60x to compete with the EOS450D

I think the D80 is more the 450D competitor.

The 1000D is the D60 competitor from canon.

The question is price, it would have to be around $600-700 for the body to be competitive, it will take away 450D sales though.

IMO it seems like it's more aimed to the folks that see the $1k price tag for an entry level not worth it so they will resort to a $300-$500 point and shoot. Here Canon see a market where people might end up rationalising the extra $100-$200 and get a real entry level dSLR and hence canon might end up with more enthusiasts that are willing to eventually buy more lenses and other equipment.
