Canon 5D Mkii.

Well, after umming and arring for the last few years, I have finally bitten the bullet and purchased a 5D Mkii. I have not found a duck, only a daughter, and really only had a few minutes to muck around with the camera last night. Here's a shot taken in almost darkness at ISO 6400 at F4, unprocessed JPEG except for resizing.

First impressions? A bit clunky to operate, loud shutter, very heavy but initial viewing of images seems mighty impressive.

Congratulation! Lovely photograph and even lovelier model, very natural.
I am in the same predicament. My 30D is getting a bit old, I feel. I think
the next upgrade should be a full sensor camera, problems are it only shoots
3 or so frames per second and its price. I am not convinced the 7D is the
way to go, although I would be able to use all my glass.
Did you get it through Poon? Did you get the 24-105 kit? Cameras Direct is
the cheapest I can find in Australia. Poon possibly will have a better deal,
but I am not sure it has Australian warranty.

Purchased at local Camera House (pro Canon dealer), price $3380, approx $200 dearer than grey import. I can thoroughly recommend Cameras Direct for grey imports and have bought from them often in the past with no problem. I did have an order with Ryda in Sydney at $3180 for genuine Canon stock but they didn't have any, and I have a wedding to shoot this coming Wednesday, so I went local.

I am heading overseas next week with the missus so will also get GST back on the deal, which was a nice sweetener.

Edit: $3180 at Ryda, not $3380.

By getting the GST back, you will almost close the gap on the gray price! Great deal.

i agree that Ryda has the cheapest aussie stock.

Ozimax, thank you. What a good idea, buying the equipment a month before going out of the country and claim the tax. I've done it before, but I didn't think of it this time. Of course one doesn't want going away with a brand new camera not knowing how to use it. So a month ahead for practice is in order. I am toying with the idea of going to India next year. Thank you for the idea, you are a champion! By the way, have a safe and pleasant hollidays.

Gave the 5D a short workout tonight with some fast moving subjects eg kids. Pretty impressed with the auto focus in low light. Here's a few examples taken mainly at ISO 3200.

Some (very rough & quick) photoshopping here, just for the fun of it.

Very nice pictures, all of them. Each one has its own appeal.
A friend of mine has been sending pictures he took in China
with his 5D MII and each one is magnificent. He told me to
get also the 24 -105 L kit because it is a good walk around
lens for that camera. Thak you for sharing those photos.
