Noisy Image stabiliser

Just upgraded to a 5d mkII and 24-70f2.8 and 70-200 f4 IS.

There is quite a noticeable noise when you depress the shutter and thus activate IS, it continues for a few seconds if release shutter.

The only other IS I've had was an 18-55 IS on a 50D and never heard a thing.

Is this normal?

Thanks
Robert PS its very sharp- pick hairs out on someones head like nothing else!

Yes it's normal. The stabilising element on an 18-55 IS is just a light piece of plastic (OK, so there might be glass in there, but it's light). There's more mass for the bigger lens to move around, therefore more noise.

Thanks Dave, appreciate the response. Just remebered i had an 18-200 for a little while and couldnt remember any noise either.

By the way the shutter/mirror slap on the 5d mkii is alot louder than the 50D. Obviously a bigger mirror but also alot louder than my previous film cameras the 5(very quiet) and the 3.
