Not exactly a big secret ;-)

Another good article at PDN:

Certainly looks like an interesting camera, not that I'll rush to get one.

A bit of a long wait for one, availability March 2012!

A pre-emptive strike, given that Nikon's expected to announce some new bodies next week?

But some interesting specs there: multiple exposures, with undo. 14FPS available ...

It looks like a very good piece of gear!

I think the next 5D will get a lot of interest now that the intermediate price gap in the 1D series has been removed.

Yes, but you have to add the usual 2-year 1D delay ;)

Cheers
Steffen.

Still waiting for the firmware update for this camera....

Looks like the ultimate camera though... Wait for D4 to come along to trump it if possible...

That’s cheap. When I purchased the Nikon D1 in 2000 it cost me over $11,000
And, it was only 2.74MP

I don't think you will see it much cheaper initially, even on DWI, MSY or B&H :-)

The demand will likely be quite high if it lives up to it's specifications, already reading about pros pre-ordering. Currently the 1D Mk IV is $4500 and the 1Ds Mk III is $7700. on DWI. By merging the two streams Canon is going for the higher price point. From memory, the 1Ds Mk III was introduced around $8500. With such a long lead time to actual release date, Canon will be adjusting MRP if Nikon brings out the D4 at a lower price point.

Also, this camera is aimed at pros and that market is not so much shopping on price alone, like a lot of hobbyists are. Sure they will try to get it as cheap as possible but they are willing to pay a higher price if the tool is right.

I know, Nikon is not known for introducing cameras at a lower price then Canon. However, looking back at when the D3 and D3s were introduced, they were at $5000 and $5200 MRP respectively.

Seems to me to be alot of hype about this camera. Is it not essentially a d3s with more mp's ? What am I missing ?

You need to read the entire release to get an idea of all the features.

14FPS... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYxsi1L5cRM

Sir, You have a valid point here.

Rooz wrote:What am I missing ?

The video specs are pretty impressive as well. Although, you have a point in that there won't be huge ground breaking features in cameras for a while. I feel it's still a bit of a step up though. As long as they haven't screwed up this sensor with noise and the autofocus works, this will be the first 'good' camera Canon has put out since the 5D2. If that's the case, I'd eagerly await this sensor to filter through to the lower end so I can recover some shadows in a picture without being heavily penalised with noise with the current 18Mpix sensor.

Maybe I am stupid (please no comments) but I do not see the point in having video in what is a pro still camera.

I reckon it's a good question to ask someone like Vincent Laforet.

I bitched and moaned when the iphone didn't have a keyboard. I resisted getting one. Soon we won't need a keyboard at all. We will we talking to our computers. The iMac 2013 will ship without a keyboard I reckon. Change is inevitable grasshopper. But then, you can still keep using a keyboard though; and probably output the same content. I know one person who still uses a typewriter for professional work and makes it work. :chook: But then, look at Firewire/Minidisc....that didn't quite work out. Perhaps video in this camera will be like that.

I think video will be big with this.
The clip size is the biggest possible without resulting is tax increases in some markets which would put the price about 30% higher.
It's video format is now directly compatible with professional editing software.

Also autofocus craps out above f5.6 as well. Previous 1D was able to autofocus at f8 minimum aperture.

From what I remember reading the number of AF points is reduced to only the center points.

Some impressive video settings are available..I think they deliberately crippled this camera to save the video market.... :o

That sounds better. I wonder when dpreview is going to do a full review.
