Canon EF 300mm f/4.0 L IS

I'm looking for opinions on this lense, particularly the focus speed. I'm thinking of the purchase for use in sports shooting, only, to gain a little more reach over the 70-200.

Hi These are take with a 5D so full frame on tripod as examples of reach
focus speed is a tad fast then the 70-200 remember more glass to move around then the 300 its also lighter I use the 300 with the 1.4 teleconverter which makes it 5.6 if I remember right, its sharp even with the 1.4 I am not disappointed with it its a keeper.

Thanks for the reply. Sharp and fast focus is all i can ask for. It's also very reasonably priced and appears to be good value for dollars spent. Certainly in that focal length. Thank you.
