It was just light humour. I'm not a Canon hater. I like Canon, I'd buy a Canon right now if I was starting a fresh. I just think the low end model build quality has a lot to be desired for my liking. There is nothing wrong however with the 20D, EOS-1D MK II or the EOS-1Ds MKII. Great bodies that I wouldn't mind owning.

That's exactly how I felt after seeing a Nikon UV filter today which seemed to have an idea to look pretty green in its reflection.

The 350D cashback isn't all that bad an idea... good way to pull people in.
I see that Maxwell aren't doing the same with the D50, but rather are giving away lenses or a flash depending on what you package you do for the D50.

Which would you take... cash or lenses?

That's happenned after the DPR posted the review of the 350D and the 350D vs the Nikon D50 not the D70s and the soon announcement of the D200, I heard lot of noise from Canon side.

I have 3 Canon guys asked me about the D70s yesterday, not from the mini meet. And one of them paid for the D70s while he got the Canon 350D in his bag with the 18-55.

Not throwing a flame at those Canon owners but in the real term, people started to look into those cameras more deeper than they first thoughts.

One of them mentioned, they want a D70s and starts to head into Nikon D200 with two more lenses as 80-400Vr or 70-200VR:roll:

I'm sure it will be fine. I'm sure the D70 would break aswell if dropped hard enough. I've dropped mine once onto concrete and fallen and have it hit against rocks while walking.

Anyway I think it's a great move by Canon to give a cashback. Is this kind of a first for them? I know Nikon have been doing it for a while.

Nha, they did it with the 300D as well.

Personally I wouldn't want cashback from a 300D or a 350D or a D50 for that matter, because of the quality of the kit lense, the cashback for the D70 was excellent, as the quality of the kit lense is good compared to the price it was offered and the cashback after buying it is a bonus.

In total I got my D70 plus kit lense and a Tamron 70-300 (better than nothing, even the salesman told me to sell the Tamron on ebay haha) for a total of $1640 after the $200 cash back, which was quite the deal considering this was the start of this year...

So yeah, all in all, cashback for the 350D is a no for me, maybe if the 20D had that, I might consider it.

Well i dont mind the look of the Canon 20d and nearly brought 1 before my D70. A fellow whom comes down here now and then who has 1 and i have had a look at it and i like it. But havent had a play with it out at the track. He seems to be happy with it.
Cashback is a bit of a bonus and well people might take them up on it.

Why is everyone so against the plastic?
apart from it not feeling quite so quality I don't see a disadvantage. unless its not a good plastic.
Have any tests been done?

There are plastics far superior to Magnesium or any metal. the trade off from an engineering point of view is flexibility(as well as other things like ware and heat transfer, the reason I like mag on a laptop). and on a camera this may make it even more impact resistant.

Does anyone know what the plastic and its properties are?

My old film body was an EOS300.

Plastic fantastic. It was light and more than capable of handling big lenses. I should whack my 70-200 2.8 on it just for laughs

I really don't think the body is 'weak'. I only bought the 20D for the features, not for any other reason.

And plastic has one benefit - small and light. With the 50 1.8 on my old film body, it was my high quality point and shoot ... same size.

Polycarbonate is a very resilient plastic (not sure if this is what they use) and the only requirement would be that the lens coupling on the body is coupled to a metal sub chassis.

For ease of use my D70 is excellent and the D2Hs reigns in features but is heavy.

Mmmm, I have not heard any negative feedback 'bout the canons having excessive wear & tear on thier lense mounts when using pro quality glass.

I can vouch for the cash back on the Canon being pretty quick.

It only took my good friend three weeks to get his, although he called it a REFUND. He is now a D70s owner.

Yes I jumped in before the cash back finished and got my 350D just before I left for my trip to the Seychelles islands ( been here a week now) only wish I had some better lenses to get pix of the place. I might try posting some soon.
