ViewNX problemYesterday, ViewNX was working fine.
Today It is crashing with the usual "send error to microsoft" message. What's changed? I downloaded a new version of Java. the 25th is my day for updates. I also edited the EXIF properties of a picture in that directory using MS internal "View picture info" option. I haven't tried other directories yet. Oh and when I fired up DSLRUsers, the screen was wacky. Looked like the tables were the wrong dimension. That one sorted itself out though. I will try a reinstall of ViewNX but Grrrr! Then I will see if I can roll back Java. I don't hold out much hope. Greg
It's easy to be good... when there is nothing else to do
Further to this,
I have isolated the issue to the photo I changed the comments on. It appears that changing the comments field using MS PhotoInfo alters the file to the point that it destabilises ViewNX THis would appear to be (a) a bug in MS PhotoInfo and (b) A bug in View NX I do not normally edit the EXIF data in this way, but I have an identifier automatically produced in camera, and the competition rules said to strip it out. Any suggestions on where to go from here? Greg

Try changing the field with exiftool, that is my choice for changing/displaying any exif data:
http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ It is a command line tool but the docs should be fairly easy. That's how I usually change my exif for the comp. I never remember to remove the comment field in-camera.
