D300 Color Space Options

Postby Gripboy on Sat Dec 01, 2007 8:50 am

I'm very much enjoying the D300. I've just stepped up from a CoolPix, so there are a lot of new options, including color space. Is there any disadvantage to using the AdobeRGB color space? I have Photoshop so my PP software is compatible but what I can find so far on the interwebs, Adobe is the better option.

regards....

Gripboy - why not have both? I have a shooting bank for my RAW stuff set to Adobe and one for quick & dirty JPEGS set to sRGB. If you were going to go with one only, though, I'd certainly suggest Adobe.

That's a good idea Simon, thanks. I too have set up a RAW / High quality bank and a 'quick and dirty" jpeg bank. At this point they're both adobe rgb, but i may change the jpeg bank to srgb. we'll see how it goes.
I'm on dslr restriction at the moment due to a bicycle accident that's torn several ligaments in my left hand. man is the d300 / 28-70 f/2.8 combo a heavy lot to deal with with 1.5 hands!

I know somwhat how you feel GB - I developed tendonopathy in my right bicep from a combination of photography and being a bit zealous at the gym. On physio's advice I now take most of the weight of my rig with my left arm or rely more on the neck strap when moving about with the camera. Now I've got the same tendon strain in my left arm!

Never thought my camera lust would extend to bionic limbs but I'll be putting an order in as soon as Poon can get hold of some at the right price....

I'd just give up on the gym.

I've tried to hold the camera with one hand, and it's not to bad. On using the 80-200mm, I found I should be able to rest the lens on my left forearm if the weight is too much for the hand. The left hand is now in a couple of splints instead of a cast, so i've got use of the index middle and pinky fingers. I can support the lens with my upturned hand but with the thumb immobile it makes zoom ring action a bit slow. I'm looking at getting a hand strap as well.
I'm looking at it like a challenge. A lot more thought and time for each picture, and probably a fair bit of tripod usage.
I've found in the past that when I was forced to use equipment in a different way, or equipment that didn't have the same abilities as my normal gear, I found ways to make the gear work for me. It requires one to go back to the basics, and think about each shot and how to creativly get the desired results.
