SB800 and PC synch cables

Postby Reschsmooth on Mon Jan 14, 2008 12:33 pm

Guys, I presume the pc synch outlet on the side of the SB800 allows the flash to be used with another camera which is not hot-shoe compatible with it (such as FE, Bronica, etc)? If this is the case, I would be inclined to flog the Metz and buy another SB800.

Cheers
Regards, Patrick

Patrick,

I think this is more for using the SB-800 on a Nikon camera and connecting another non-Nikon compatible flash to the SB-800.

I believe if you want to use the SB-800 on a camera that doesn't have a hot shoe you'd use a PC-Sync to hot shoe cable.

I use the sync port on the SB-800 with pocket wizards.. So yeah, as long as you have a sync cable, you can trigger the SB-800 from just about anything (at least in manual mode)

Thanks guys.

I have a 5m synch cable - I am sure it can't do too much damage to try the SB800 on one of the other cameras (can it?? :chook: )

If you have a multi-meter you should be able to check the voltage.

That I don't - I am not a real man.

Do you think that there could be an issue or are you simply advocating prudence?
