Desperate people out there for the BL-3 !!

Check the price on ebay atm, and it's not even finished !!

I'll wait till supplies are available, plus I'll make do with a bit of foam
on the normal D300 cover, it's a stop gap measure but it works

Cheers

Why not just use AA batteries?

Once you've used the EN-EL4 or 4a, you wouldn't dream of using AA's.
My EN-EL4a will last me 4 days with continuous use

Have you tried AAs? Gary reports almost no battery usage after thousands of photos.

That's interesting to know.
I haven't needed to however, with 3 EL-EN's from my D2 bodies are enough and easier to load. :D

My AAs last me more than three weeks. :P

The real question is how many shots per charge: I'm seeing about 2K frames per set of AAs, which I think is more than adequate, especially with two sets of AAs.

And if you already have a D2 something and thus already have the batteries and charger, then yes, you'd want to probably stay with that. I didn't, so trying the AAs made more sense.

Is that 2000 NEFs Gary? 14 bit or 12 bit?

Thanks Gary, sounds sweet! Now just to save a bit more, fortunately as I save up money the AUD keeps going up too, which makes it easier.

My business partner tried the AA holder and didn't get the extra speed, which is what he mainly bought the D300 grip for.

With respect, I suspect that this would be down to operator error. :)

You set the camera to CH, you set the camera to use the AAs, you choose a mode and settings that permit the shutter to fire quickly enough to achieve 8fps, and away you go.

Have your friend recheck the settings, because this is pretty straightforward.

Rechargeables, purchased from Jeff Servaas. I bought a couple of sets of Imedions (8 per set) along with a charger, and I couldn't be happier.

I am also using the AA for now, works perfectly for me. I use standard alkalines (Energizer) and haven't had to change them yet after several shoots.

Lucky I bought the 16 eneloop and 16 imedions from Jeff then. I was set on the imedions and then was pondering to go with either 16 eneloops or 16 of the 2700 powerex.

I paid $99.00 (I know you can probably get it cheaper but I needed it for the Grand Prix).

No, you did not. :) AAs do the job just fine.
