Nikon D800

Not yet announced by Nikon, but this article from Digital Rev says "now that the D800 is with us", ans they're saying 18MP.

I'm asking the PR people for details.

Id be much happier with the digitalrev version if its d3s performance. Nikonrumors is rarely wrong though. No flipscreen again would be disappointing.

Nikon PR have come back and told me that there's no announcements.

That could mean that there's no D800, or just that it's not yet announced. But it is, at least, the official word.

Nikon Rumors says 36MP. I guess we'll see who is correct.

With the Nikon 1 there was at least an announcement saying that they've got nothing to announce :rotfl2: Now they're not even announcing that anymore…

A 36MP FX sensor would give 16MP in DX, i.e. the same pixel density as the D7000. Not that this makes 36MP more or less likely, just saying…

The mk2 is 2 years old and had 24mp. One would imagine that the mk3 will be 30+ so for nikon to release an 18mp camera to lead its fx charge is unlikely imho. I wonder when or if we will see a dual line of semi pro fx cameras ?

I like the sounds of an 18MP D800!

Yes, esp the uncompressed 14-bit RAW files :) I guess one has to either shoot JPEG only or be more careful with the shutter button - like in the olden days :P
