I'm interested Kevin, but not completely convinced.
It is impossible to navigate to that page via the Nikon UK web site's home page, or navigate back to the home page from the link in DPReview.
I'm wondering whether it is a bit of a hoax.
Time will tell.

Looks as if Nikon have solved the macro flash problem with the SU-800 remote commander - plus I see an 18-200VR - time will tell

I like the look.
Now I want an mp count, a sign of other specs, and a price tag.

Lol why is one of the icons on the bottom right near the LCD shaped like Pacman?
Does this switch lock the focusing
modes? I reckon the focusing switch while good would get annoying everytime you knock it.
The AF-On button not far from the command wheel is a good thing. Some techniques for handholding large lenses require focus seperation from shutter release.

Interesting specs although I am surprised to see that "Creative in-camera effects, Image Overlay and Multiple Exposure" survuved the scaling down of the D2x.
No surprises though, pretty much as logic indicated.

Maybe it's the vertical grip release/lock

I know the specs are not official, but can anyone tell me why the D200 would have a flash sync of 1/250 sec? Isn't that the same as the D2x? Why would nikon make the better (than D70) cameras have a slower flash sync than the D70? Or is 1/250 sec fast enough. Just wondering. There must be a reason.

Maybe because they want the D2x/D200 users to buy an SB-800 and use the Creative Lighting System to get flash-sync up to 1/8000?
I have no idea if that's how it works but just a stab in the dark.

Ok, Birddog get ready for the order onslaught, if it proves to be what we hopeed! I'm salavating and I haven't even seen the rest of the spec sheet. Any more available? Any sample images taken with D200? Does it come with add on vertical grip? OK, I think I have calmed down!
Any idea on price range? No don't answer this, I'm on a high I don't want to be taken DOWN yet!
cheers

Paul, that makes sense. I still think it is a conspiracy that Nikon forced me to buy the wireless remote because I couldn't keep the timer function on until I wanted to cancel it. Had to put it in timer
mode after every shot. It was a pain. Anyway, I have the remote now.

Just one question for y'all:
Will the release of the D200 suddenly make your current camera a bad one?
Why will y'all be trading up to this?

A yet-to-be-seen feature of the D70/D70s is that once the D200 is announced image quality will slowly degrade to the point (on the actual release date of the D200) where it is no longer usable.
Thus we will all be upgrading and our pictures will become good again

It's a very good question Gary. I doubt I will upgrade, because I am not yet able to push my D70 to it's limits. I don't shoot sports or fast action. Preliminary D200 specs aren't too impressive with frame rate anyway, but we'll wait and see. The only thing I think of, that is a kind of limitation, is print size. I don't think 12mp is enough for me to upgrade my camera on print size alone. I'll wait until 24 mp perhaps.
I'll be able to improve on my D70 by investing in some excellent lenses, instead of using the budget ones I currently use. Those lenses can be used later when I finally DO upgrade. (24mp!)

I am only interested in the new-comming, much-talked about D200.
I probably wont be purchasing one for a while becuase i still love my D70 ^^

Gary,
The only reason I would upgrade would be for more frames per second for my sports shots I take, other than that I see no reason to upgrade.
And truth betold I would much prefer a D2Hs for this very reason.
I'll be keeping my beloved D70 until it stops working which hopefully wont be for at least another 3 years. (extended warrenty thanks Birdy
)
Just my 2 cents worth.

The things I am interested in with the D200 is the size of the viewfinder and the autofocus accuracy.
Obviously there is a lot more I'm interested in as well but if those two things are significantly improved and Image quality is great then I will consider upgrading. I'm in no hurry though...
...Apparently one guy on dpreview has just pre-ordered his (along with the rumoured 18-200 VR lens).... Insanity considering he has never even seen a down-sampled web version of an example photo from the camera.

It's not rumoured.
We had reason to believe this was coming a month or so ago, and these new, official images confirm its existance.

I just say rumoured because Nikon hasn't actually made any announcement yet.
Looks fairly certain though with the pics. I'm starting to believe....

Paul,
Actually, no one has any sample nor any real spec of it at this stage, so I think we may have to wait till the day of announcing the products.
Pre-order, yes, someone overthere may play this game, nothing will be lost, coz they didn't pay nor having seen any sample, they can cancel the order if they don't once the product released.

The photos I've seen (and have posted a couple of them) came directly from the Nikon UK site, and included images of this new lens.
That's no longer rumoured, AFAIC.
As to the Pacman, that's the lever for opening the CF door; you pull the lever anti-clockwise (up, to the right) to release the door.

Noticed that the button locations for WB, ISO, etc have just swapped compared to the D70.
Looks nice tho
That last pic with the macro flashes is crazy...bit overkill and looks more like a spaceship.

That macro flash system certainly looks good ....
Exactly what I was looking for a month or so ago before I bought my Flashbracket... I often looked at Canon's twin-lite thingy with envy.
Hopefully this will prove to be just as good/better

You are sure hyped-up about this marco
True blackwater, but i'll cool down and wait to really paw over the real specs when announced then deliberate about how i'll use it as my main body. I won't be getting rid of my D70 yet. Then I'll probably think about it a bit more.
cheers
