D2X prices

Hi Peeps, Well i wonder if the new D200 will make any difference to D2x Prices? I know these camera's are not in the same league, but who knows i noticed on ebay that some of the D2x prices have come down a bit for those claiming they are Maxwell stock and warranty from Maxwell as i seen 1 for AU $6,465.00 buy it now price. I dont think it will make a big dent but who knows.

D200 seems to be fair, much along D70 prices some time ago, they have dropped a bit now.

BBJ,
about a month ago there were people posting on DPReview about being told to hold off on buying D2X's as the price would drop. The estimates ranged from $1,000 to $2,000US. I almost posted a link to it under humour.

That $6,495 is usually by Nikon on Broadway, a real life shop, who seems to have that as their standard ebay price. That in itself seems a bit of a drop from $7k not long ago.

Would be nice if the D2X body only was about $5k, with the D200 at $2.5k, D70 at $1.5-1.8k and the D50 around $1.0-1.1k.

Kipper, Birddy has the D200 at $2300, would you like him to charge you extra?

Yes, it's from NikonBroadway, new from demo or evaluation stock.
Brand new stock same as previously price, no change.

Why should Nikon/ Maxwell drop the price of D2x? no other price drop from other stores as B&H or Adorama. The release of D200 does not effect the sale of the D2x and it's difference segment of the market. BTW, for folks who's waiting the prices drop on any imported goods/ items, may be will seeing unexpected prices increased in the near future if our Aussie keep heading South as in the last few days.

BBJ, be careful about looking too hard at the D2X you will surely end up owing one, combine that with the weight of your 300 2.8 and you will need a monopod. You know what everyone will call you then?

kipper,
The D2x is never will be at that price, same as the D200, I think the price of the D200 in high of 2 grants is mostly adequate for Australian Market after the beef up from local distributor.

I know Maxwell buying prices are not the same as other distributors in North America and Europe and Maxwell is not Nikon, they're an importer and sole distributor, it means they have no equal in pricing as Nikon USA or Nikon Europe.

Our market share is too small + 10% for Johnny and his mates buying toys and selling "hot manure".

The D70s at around AU$1400.00 and it's current same as the D50.

Well if Nikon want to compete with Canon's 5D that sells for what $5kAU or cheaper which is a 12mp full frame camera. I feel if they want to take a chip out of Canon they'll have to drop their prices to make it more attractive.

kipper,
Canon 5D is 5K and Nikon D200 is less than 3K Aussie plastic.

I don't understand what do you mean?

The Canon 5D and Nikon D200 are not aiming to the entry level market.

So, why should they compete each other, other side D200 is not in the real as yet and we don't know, it's a Nikon legend or a paperweight.
Wait till it has real plays in your hands then we can talk more.

John for what the D2X can do and for the sheer shooting pleasure it provides in abundance $6000+ is cheap and great value

but i understand budget constraints, hope you get one cheap real soon.

So Kipper,

The 1D Mk2 with 8 megapixels should with your theory sell for less then 5K.

I dont think so.

from their financial Nikon are happily cruising along slotting their camera inbetween Canon's offerings. I dont think they will reducing the price of the D2X for quite a while.

Yes actually I do Huynhie. What was the price of the best Nikon film SLR camera back about 5-10years ago? I bet it was never up in the $7k mark. Given that we now take more photos than we ever did, cameras are going to be purchased more frequently due to them passing their rated lifetime. So why should we be forking out $7k every 3-5years?

kipper,
The F5 once it was first released, it was closely to AU$7K, and I paid one at that price, and price dropped few months later, but it was in the film day.

The best Nikon Film SLR (F5) was approximate AUD5000 if I remember correctly.

the F100 was about half that price.

The F6 is close to AUD5k if you add the battery grip.

Exactly, now we're paying an additional $2k on top of what we used to pay for camera bodies. Something that we'll probably replace a lot quicker than the film bodies of the past.

But we are not paying for film and processing any more.

AUD17 for velvia and AUD 18 for processing. it all adds up.

Yes, but we never released 20,000 shutter actuations in a year and considered replacing it the next with a newer camera.

yeah but look on the bright side, atleast now with digital photography it is cheaper to practice your technique. In the past the reason you wouldn't get to 20000 actuations was because it was expensive to get to that level.

Glen, i do have a new monopod.LOL But yeh i dont expect price to drop as much as Kipper suggested, but i had just notice a small drop like the 6.5k mark from its original pricing of near 8k. When you take in considerationg what they are selling the D2hs, and maybe Kipper this could be the go for you mate as i dont think you maybe dont need the mp for birding etc...

Yes that is the place Nikon on Broadway, but yeh notice price has dropped around the 400 to 500 $ mark.

BBJ, I am with you it is always good to see a drop in our lusts (unless you are Andrew who has already taken the plunge and invested). I think you are spot on, it is about $500 as $7k used to be the ebay std.

Call and ask them, to see is it brand new or demo stock?
Price of fresh and brand new D2x is around 7K still.
Don't expect any price drop for this time being.

I think you are probably right Birddy  Would also tie in with the ECS price then ($6795 for demo)

Glen and Wendel, i am going to get one soon at some stage, but work had been quiet for awhile so less bucks. But i also needed to save some more at the time Birdy had his specials on as i have to keep some reserves incase something goes wrong. Dont worry i seen 1 of my local compitition running around with one. Saying goes all good things come to those who wait, well i bloody hope so,LOL it is just a matter of time and the longer i wait the more i have for back up.
