Thanks Paul for this link. Easy to follow and understand.

I really got camera lust when I saw the D2X. But and unless Lotto helped, I would never be able to get one.

The D200 is an excellant subsitute.

For me it's all down to the performance of that CAM1000 module.

Even if I decide this is the camera for me I won't be getting one until mid to late next year....

But I'm still desperate to know about the AF performance.

Can't wait for some reliable info on this

Paul

Yeah me too. Apparently he changed the title from 'REVIEW' to 'PREVIEW' after a few people pointed this out.

Umm Gary, you weren't possibly thinking about Ken Rockwell and typed "Thom Hogan" by mistake?

John, I was thinking the same. Poor Thom :(

John, no.

My understanding is that Thom does lots of reviews, often without the camera under review not having crossed his desk.

:)

Hmmm... I thought that was Ken R, not Thom.

Oh well

Thom, I believe, but please feel free to verify and correct me as needed.

I just went to Thom's homepage and skimmed his last 8 reviews (D50,18-55,55-200,D2X,S3,F6,18-70 & 17-55) and in each case he gives definitive evidence that he has used the product. In the case of lenses, it is test shots and with the cameras very specific opinions on things such as size, shape, handling, menus, button placement, etc, etc.

If you browse through many of Thom's lens reviews, as John has previously noted, he does include a number of sample images taken with the lens under review. I imagine he handled each of the bodies in question when writing his film and digital slr ebooks.

I could be mistaken - there is always a possibility that an item under review may never have crossed his desk however he has answered a few of my questions in the past and seems like a knowledgeable, decent chap. I'll happily give him the benefit of the doubt.
