Nikkor 400 f3.5 ED AIS

I would be interested to hear anyone's experiences with this lens and with any opinions about specific teleconverters that might be especially good with it. I understand the old TC-301 is quite good with this lens and a few have recommended the TC-14B. Any other thoughts?
