Hi All,

I'm having a dilemma with my kit.

My SB800 has begun to sporadically and intermittently flash when mounted on the hotshoe of the D200. It seems to only do it when it is in motion (i.e. moving camera to eye or looking at top LCD display) so I'm guessing it's a connection some where.

The funny thing is the SB800 doesn't do it when it's off camera, and it doesn't do it on a D70 (when moved about). Conversely the D200 doesn't sporadically trigger an SB600 when mounted on the D200?

Has anyone heard of such a thing happening, my issues is which do I send in for servicing? I can't do both as the Sb800 was brought in from O/S, but would Maxwell take a look at the D200 and blame the SB-800? Or would they service the SB-800 at cost?

Heard of about 2 users having this. One had his camera serviced, the other had it replaced (as it was within 7 days)

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on both the camera and flash? Might be worth giving that a go before sending it in for servicing.

Yep tried cleaning contacts no joy. For some reason the shoe on the D200 seems looser than the D70 (if that makes sense). Both the SB-800 and SB-600 seem to wobble more on the D200 than on the D70, but I don't think that's likely to break contacts from the flash to the camera.

Do you have a vertical grip on your D200?

On my D2H, I keep pushing the vertical shutter release button with my right hand when chimping, so I just leave it locked until I need it.

I wish but no, I think it's a service thing, I was just trying to kid myself out of it so I didn't lose the camera for god knows how long.

That would be an interesting concept, what if my D200 had pre-emptive anti-red eye that flashes completely randomly just incase you want to take a picture of someone? No it really is sporadic, and can sometimes be triggered by gyrating the camera slowly whilst not touching the controls. Crazy innit!?

Maybe I've got an experimental D200s... Awww yeah.
