Hi,
If you were going to go and get a 28-70 2.8, where would you go?

I guess, I am looking for one in good order, but an happy to buy used, and would like to try it on my camera if used.

In Melbourne... say Camera Exchange? Vanbars?

I see that new they are about $1800 from HK, about $2900 from Teds, and $2500 at vanbars.

Does anyone know the used market, say 70% of new price?

Anything I should watch out for?

thanks
Oz

try buy-n-shoot.com used gear - search for 'nikon'. From what I see a lot of professionals unload stuff there...

In fact, the guy I bought my 35-70 off today has one - ED28-70mm $2095

Discount Digital Photographics has new ones for $2099. Their price has come down over the past month. It makes the second hand used one a bit expensive at $4 less. If it is the same guy who advertised in the trading post, he has had these lenses for ages and they are well used albeit in good condition.

Its interesting how second hand prices on current pro Nikon gear is often the same as new grey prices. At least with Grey you get some kind of warranties and the chance to get extended warranties as well. I would go grey.

If you're really trying to save the money, then I'd look into the tamron 28-75 2.8.

The image quality is easily as good. You lose a little bit in autofocus speed, but barely any, and I think it's slightly less build quality, but it's a good way to save $1000.00 (I got mine for $400 Canadian brand new).
