nostalgia - the D70 is incredible - I took two batteries and no charger on a three week trip through China... after 2000 photos and some flash still had enough charge on the second battery for several hundred shots when I got home... D200 runs out over a weekend and I make darn sure I carry the battery holder and spare disposables...

Depends on the quality of the batteries, Christian.
If Geoff comes into this thread, he'll probably be able to tell you how long some of the top of the range Energizers lasted for.

Christian, I have a MB200 for the D200 and have 2 en-el3a's, but I don't use them except as backups. I have found that using 6
AA rechargeables (energizer 2500MAh) seems to last almost forever for me. So I keep recycling the
AAs quickly, as they loose their charge with time, and keep the 2 en-el3a's as backups that don't got flat with time. I wouldn't like to put a shot count on it, but I
feel the
AAs give me more shots than the en-el3a's.
Cheers
John

It depends on the condition of ur battery. If u charge it properly, without letting it run flat, after ur 3rd or 4th charge it should be almost equal to a D70.
This is a quote out of a review on the D80.
"I got 700 shots on my first charge, and I spent a lot of time playing around with playback and the menus since it's a new camera for me. THat's probably a record: most of the time I waste playing around in the menus and not shooting, so the first charge usually dies fast for me.
I got 1,000 shots on the second charge. That seems about right.
I got 1,400 shots on the third charge. That included a lot of sequences of several shots. That lets me get more shots than individual ones.
I use flash about as much as you do, which means maybe for every one out of five shots. I'll shoot all day, and fire it up when it's time to go inside. I'll also use it often for fill for people shots in sunlight.
This is about TRIPLE my D200. It will be easy to forget to charge my D80 battery, since I doubt it will need much charging. A typical amateur might go a month or more!
The D200 sucks batteries and I thought it was the big, bright LCD. The great news is the D80 has the same almost three-dimensional LCD, and its battery lasts longer than I can. Use the LCD all you want! "
Hope that helps.

MY guess for the D200's bad battery performance is its powerful processing power inside. It is much more powerful and quicker than the D80 and thus eats more energy on usage...

I don't really have any reference to compare my D80's battery life to but I am very happy with it. For convenience sake I've increased the time the displays stay lit and I've been playing around a lot in the menus and with NR and I am still getting 700+ photo out of every charge...

love the d70 battery. take it out all weekend and can put my trust in it.
got a second from ebay, non-nikon, which lasts a decent time, but after some shots it drains and needs time to get going again.

whats wrong with letting the battery go flat? i thought that using a battery until its almost empty was better for it, compared to recharging it after only reaching half way...
i understand NiMH doesnt need to run flat to recharge, but thought they last longer if you let them go through the whole cycle

Li-Ion battery actually loses its chemical capability to charge over again if you let it go too flat.

OK...my D80 has done a few weddings now.
Battery life is like the D200, you will need a spare one in your bag.
My old D70 can do back to back weddings.....
