Due to an overexcitement at today's party, my sb600 is now cracked

It's still perfectly usable, but should I fix it before it gets worse? And if so do you think discount digital will do it under their warranty (not too sure about what "warranty" covers). Any idea how much it will cost ? Should I try doing a DIY job on it ?Just looking for opinion here.

i dont think warranty covers accidental damage.

I would just send it in and get it fixed, it looks unstable at the moment from these pics, and destined to get worse, it may just be that bottom plate that needs replacing.

Plus its a good chance for you to test out Nikon Australia's new service division for the rest of us!!;)

If you want to fix this yourself, there is a plastic weld product called Plastex http://www.plastexexpress.co.uk/. It's available from most motorcycle stores. You may even find it on Ebay.

I have used this on the fairings of my bike. Works like a charm, you will see the crack but ti will be welded together properly, not just super glued.

I don't think it is under warranty for accident damages, however a phone call to verify this situaton does not take much time. If it not coverd by warranty then the Wocka method is the best , but that glue might be costly, go to any car spare and pick up a 2 pack expoxy ( must be 2 pack ) and apply around the crack many coat untill the crack welded together, it will not look nice but functional ( I did this way to my PS cameras ), Hope this help .

If you are technically inclined you might want to have a go at taking out the four screws that are located on that bottom section at which point the hotshoe will pull away a little and you will find have a dozen wires going up to a small sety of connectors. Remove the connectors and you have the part off ready to be replaced by a Nikon part or, if you prefer, plastic weld it with the material mentioned above. Plastic welding from both sides should make the part more reliable. good luck!

Checked the website and Nikon Australia Pty Ltd's in the same address (Lidcombe) as Maxwell ?

I'd be emailing Nikon Oz, rather than Maxwell's.

Or maybe just sending it on to Wendell.
