Is the 18-70 supposed to come with a lens hood?

I managed to get my hands on a D80 last week.
It's a great camera, I'm really enjoying shooting with it.

The only "problem" per se is the 18-70 lens I got with it was unbundled from a D70 kit. That is, I got an unboxed lens, bubblewrapped with body caps.

I asked the lady if there should be a lens hood with the lens, she said that only the 18-135 came with one, which I thought was odd.

I've looked over the net to try and find some answers but I haven't got anything definitive.

So in short, should have I gotten a lens hood with my 18-70?

I know I got one with my D70 kit...so I'd have to say yes, you should have.

Being that it came out of a D70 kit though, there would be no box for the lens as the camera & lens is all in the one big box....however the lens caps & lens hood should have been in that box.

Taking the lens out of the kit to sell seperately would be why it was bubblewrapped and not in an original Nikon box.....but the hood should have come with it as well.

I guess they previously sold the hood seperately as well, being they were happy to break up the kit to sell you the lens

Where did you buy it ???

My D70s kit lens came with a lens hood, as well as a soft case.

My D70 kit came in 2 boxes, one for camera body and one for lens.

The lens box inside has the instructions manual, warranty card, a few ad paperwork, lens hood, soft pouch and the lens itself.

And as per Nikon's official site, the official "Standard accessories" (which comes with the lens, includes the hood.

Exactly the same as what Yi-P said when I bought my D70 with kit lens. 2 boxes and a lens hood.
Cheers

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

It looks as though I've been screwed. :(

Assuming a D80 kit is the same as a D70 kit, I'm short of:

a lens hood, a soft case, an instruction manual and a warranty card.

Where did I get it from? D'place for Dodgeyness it seems!

Normally I would try and avoid doing business with such a place but they were the only ones who had anything close to a D80 kit.

I'll give them a call and keep you informed.

Please do, but the only thing of import there is the hood.

The manual is probably a 2 page panphlet - you don;t need too many instructions on how to use a lens, I hope. :)

The warranty card ... if the lens is pre-loved, then the warranty, on Maxwell stock, is not transferrable. If the seller provides you a warranty, that will probably require little more than your purchase reciept.

The lens bag ... I find they get in the way. :)

Could you please update your location as stated in the profile so that it's more menaingful and in compliance with our rules? A postcode is not really helpful; suburb name is the go.

Thanx.

I agree with what Gary said about the instruction manual and soft case.
I'd offer to give you mine but I think I threw them away.
You do need the lens hood though. But if you can't get one, maybe a generic after market one would do the job.

Cheers
John

OK, everythings been sorted out.

I spoke to the lady that sold me the camera and -despite what she said when I bought it- she said that these things should have come with it.

I went over and picked them up just before (Highpoint store).

Now that I have them, I can agree that the case won't get much use and the manual will most likely live its life in my bag. Reguardless of this, I should have recieved these when I bought my camera.

No worries. It's been that way for well over a year, and members get a gentle nudge only if and/or when it's noticed. Thanx for your cooperation.

And more importantly, glad to hear that you got the issues with the lens purchase sorted out so quickly and professionally.

I managed to get my D80 with 18-70 kit from D'place for Dodgyness too, and the first lens they gave me had a dent in the plastic body. I took it striaght back and they swapped it over for one from a D70s kit, when I got home I realised that I hadn't been given the lens soft case that is supposed to come with it. I rang them up and they posted one too me. I use the case at the moment, but can't imagine that that will last for long.

If you want an Australian warranteed D80 you cant be too fussy about these little details it seems, I wonder if the D40 will have better supply now that Nikon has a presence in this country...

yeah the 18-70 that come with my D70s kit came with a hood and softcase and caps...

i thought nearly all common nikkors came with hoods- the 50mm and maybe a few others are amongst the exceptions.

A lens hood should come with the 18-70mm lens.
