Macro Flash - ring flash?

Postby Critter on Thu Dec 21, 2006 9:10 pm

I have for some time wanted a ring flash for macro shots (originally for my 5700 coolpix). Nikon have their R1C1 flash setup which looks good, but I like the look of portraits done with the ring flash.

Is the R1 setup (I dont think that i would need the R1C1 as I have a D80 and dont need the wireless commander thingy) going to give weird portrait reflections? Am i completely on the wrong track? Is the Sigma offering any good for macro (flowers mostly) and portraits?

Thanks guys and gals!

Chris - I have the R1C1 and can highly recommend this set up for any kind of photography. You are right, you don’t need the R1C1, just the R1.

This system is better than a ring flash which tends to produce flat pics.
