If you had a choice, for a back-up DSLR, and funds were tight, would you get a well priced D100 (I haven't read much at all about them but they use CF), a D70s (uses CF) or a D80 (uses SD)?

depends on what i was using at the current time. If I already had a CF camera, I'd get another cf body as a backup and same goes for SD.

I have a D2 as my main body and still my old D70 as a backup, but I'm hardly using it.

depends what its to be used for? A D40?

agree with wayne, I'd first look at compatability with my kit (1. lens, 2. memory cards (as these are much cheaper than glass)).

Current bodies are D200 and f90x (although, I can't quite cram the CF into the f90x :? ). Lenses are all non-DX (not that it matters).

Whilst I am happy to use the f90x when wifey is using the D200, I thought a D100, at a good enough price (which, at the moment, given other budgetary constraints means bugger all) may work as a second/back-up DSLR.

Hi Bruce,

I'd be going for the camera that functions in the similar manner to the camera you are using as a primary camera already... reason being that the more similar they are the more easier it is to flick between them.

The D70s is a good camera to have as a back up... I have used and liked the D80 although I think if you are looking to save on a camera the last thing you need to do is turn around and have to stock up on a new memory card format.

Hope this is a help! Ants

Thanks for the feedback guys - the D100 I was looking at has already moved out of my price range (which was about $10  ) - you can always hope to pick something up for a bargain! I think I will be happy to stick to the D200/f90x set up.

bite the bullet and spend on another digital body.

When I bought my D200 - i Had F90 as backup.
But I'm shooting weddings and ievents - if the D200 craps itself the F90 is such a big shift from the D200. controls different --> lugging at least 10 rolls of film...

So for the time being I'm using a D70 (borrowed during events) as backup - but in due time I will get a second D200.

the way i see it --> 2xD200 is still cheaper than a D2Xs
:D

currentlly I shoot wide 35-70/18-70 with the D200 and zoom 80-200 on the D70 on events.

no need to lens swap anymore :D

Patrick, the D70 was viewed as better than the D100 when it came out, as they both are dirt cheap I would get a D70. I would not get a D80 as a backup as you would watch it go from $1200 to $600 while it sits unused at the bottom of the bag.
