has anyone heard of a 80-300
or a 70-300 old AF-S lens

the make looks like the 28-70 markings and finish but its huige it has the same sort of hood the 28-70 has, comparable to the size of a 70-200 but slightly bigger and fatter

it's not Vr it's old school

I've seen some dinosaur nikon press guys use them

iv'e never been able to determine what lens it is because i cant find any reference on it on the web

anyone know what im talking about?

can you still buy them?

and I've never even heard of the 80-300?

Wendell, to be honest, that looks like the AF-S 80-200 to me. Check out the pic here @ kenrockwell

Definately an AFS 80-200 f/2.8, being having the biggest hood of its class on the Nikkors :P

http://www.imagepower.de/IMAGES/imgEQUI ... S80200.htm

Just a version before the release of the 70-200VR.
