it seems this lens is pretty well regarded. does anyone on here use it, what do they have to say about it?

wouldnt mind that extra bit of light, 30mm is a nice focal length on DX too.

hmmm, i assume you mean out of stock with poon?

i am not priveledged enough to yet check out poons prices (i spent way too much time lurking these boards!), but just a question, how comparable are poons prices to say bhphotovideo or adorama, after factoring in shipping (and ignoring import duties)

i know im not allowed to get the price list YET, but i dont really have the cash YET either (waiting on pay from a few jobs), so im trying to work out where the best place to purchase from will be...

Well, yes, but as of yesterday, he was telling me that Sigma haven't manufactured any in a while, and there don't seem to be any future prospects for this.

We're actually refunding funds to a member because we don't see it becoming readily available any time soon.

So if you want it and you see it somewhere, grab it.

As a general guide, very good. D200 + 18-200 is currently sub Au$2600 delivered.

That can change from day to day, so don't sweat it. When you're ready, shop around for the best price you can find.

I bought the sigma 30mm 1.4 and use it a lot more than the 50mm 1.4 I have. It is ideal for parties and indoors as it is about the right focal length on a d70. I bought mine from Vanbar in melbourne because they were not much more expensive than overseas and I was concerned about back focus, which was an early issue, so I wanted the abilty to return it if necessary. It was fine. They are currently listed for $594, but I don't know if they have one.
For those that don't know Vanbar is a reputable pro photographic chop in Melbourne. Not always competitive butif you want something immediately they can be a saviour.

I love mine ;) The aspheric element makes it quite sharp at the wide open end, idea for astronomical and any other low-light photography.

I have had one for a few weeks. Just love it over a zoom, particularly for night shots, NO flare. Nice and sharp, wide enough DOF at 1.4 since its 30mm.

Perfect match for 1.5x DX fomat.

Oh, but the lens cap is a piece of crap (not that that impacts the images...). The hood is good to line the bin...
