i always said that i was going to wait for the next generation of niks to get a new body...

but i have a few jobs coming up that are going to pay quite reasonably, plus if i sell one of my d70s that is another 400-500 bucks...

... and i'm pretty happy with my lens selection at the moment... the only lenses i want are quite trivial... so if i went out and bought a d200, i'd feel comfortable that i have enough good glass (and light...)

i'm getting very tempted to buy a d200 at the $1600 odd price poon is asking!!!!

Heh, Kris & I went through the same thing recently. Love our D70s to death, but when the price came down sufficiently, we bought a D200. Couldn't care less if/when the D200s or D300 comes out, at that price you can't lose (just over what we paid for the D70s a few years ago )

i just spoke with the repairer before.

he said that he ruined the LCD screen while fixing it, and this now needs to be replaced.

there is no extra charge for this (obviously...) but it is on back order, and he does not know when it will be fixed by. the repairer speaks verrrry broken english, so it makes it hard to get a straight answer or understand exactly what he's saying... or argue with him about the fact that my d70S should be in my hands, now...

ARRRGHHHHHHHHH.

i am thinking i will just buy a d200, sell the d70 body i am using as soon as i recieve the d200, and re-imburse my savings account...

still pretty peeved about having the d70s sitting at the repairer

I'm pretty much set on getting the D200 in the next month or so.

Looks like a great camera and that price is very tempting.

I'm going on placements to the NT and Moree for two months each for Uni, so I figure might as well get the max I can photographically out of these trips.

Reasonably happy with my current glass selection - though I'd love a 28-70 F2.8.

I can say I've had the D200 since Xmas Day, and I've loved it. I still use the D70 every now and then, as a second body or a different lens combo, and sadly the love is lost there, it feels light and toy like, of course when I first got it was was weight, strong and macho, but we move on to better things. As current prices the D200 is literally throwing itself out the door, it damn good kit.

If you can afford it, just do it! You won't be let down by the D200 in any aspect in terms of performance and reliability, as long as you have enough batteries in your bag.

As craig said, the D70 will become a little toy and very plastic feel when you get hold of a D200 or higher grade body. Not to speak itself for the 11 point autofocus system. Fast and accurate, coming out from a D70, you will see how big a difference there is.

But about selling the D70, not sure if you want to do that to give up a second body for jobs. One more body means halving the chance of failure from one body.

Frankly speaking, I'm looking for something with high resolution yet small and light enough like a D70... D40x??

the main reason i want a d200 is because of the body/build.

i looked into the d200 probably about 3 or 4 months ago when my d70s was still going good and the price was up around $2200 in the grey market, and couldnt really justify it.

but now im shooting on my 2nd d70 (not s) and the price is down to $1600ish, well, its looking a whole lot nicer, and i'd love the peace of mind that if a rider runs into me or i fall over while shooting a photo (seriously, some of the perches i take to get the shot are ridiculous...) i dont have to worry about a broken camera as well as broken bones.

yi-p: i already have 2x d70's (one s one non s). i am going to definitely keep one - i often need to sync at 1/500 so thats why i have stayed with the d70's (by choice) for so long anyway.

There is no comparison between them (well ok there is but you know what I mean).

The D200 is a wonderful package and well and truly worth the money. I do not regret for one second purchasing mine (even at more than it costs now). As Chris mentioned about procrastination and happiness, they never go hand in hand!

I don't care if a D200s or D300 comes out in the next 2 years, I have my body that does what I need. When I need a new one I think (hope) I'll be needing something more along the lines of the D2 range (whatever the new one turns out to be).

If you need one and can afford it, go for it, you will not be disappointed!

neither, because realistically i wont be able to justify the price.

i am able to get the $$$ together from a few months worth of jobs, but i would rather spend the amount of money i'd expect to pay for a brand new just released prosumer cam on glass.


mmmm. i suspect that in a few weeks i will be ordering a d200. i dont think you can go wrong with them, especially since i find myself substituting high-iso with artificial light more and more (and more)

I think the ones using artificial light look fantastic anyway! The focus is more on the boarder / skater this way

personally, i prefer artificial light, it really pops the photo out. i find magazine editors and companies wanting photos for their ads prefer it, too.

but sometimes i get a little worried, because people often ask how much i photoshopped the image. i always respond with the same comment 'i didnt, its straight out of camera'.

but i always convince myself that using flashes to make photos look more dynamic is ok, and in the spirit of photograpy... it's the same as how landscape photographers use filters to stop down bright skyes etc. i use flashes to 'stop up' my dark subjects

i have some really awesome shots i took on the weekend, i just need to use the net at home to chuck em on my host.
