G'day, like to know if there are any Nikon SLR's that can change between AF-S/AF-C without having to go through the menu?

SLR or DSLR? My D80 has a dedicated button for AF-S/AF-C next to the top LCD screen.

D200 I know from experience does.

I know my D80 can. It has a little AF button on the top which switches through AF-S, AF-C and AF-A.

I'm sure the D200, D2x/s and D2h would have something similar.

That's awesome. I thought i was being really picky for wanting this feature!

And the D200 is my next item on the list, so that's top news..

I've tried taking shots of static things on AF-C when i haven't had time to change it in the menu, and they come out slightly OOF, which is understandable i guess.

On the D200 you have a Switch, in the same spot as the D70 has the Auto / Manual Focus switch (near the camera mount), The D200 has a three stage Switch, AF-C, AF-S, Manual.

Nice one Nikon. Another reason/excuse to switch.

On the D70 and D70S, if you select the preprogrammed Sports mode from the program dial, AF-C is automatically set. The mode may also change some of your other settings but I've not checked in much detail because atm I don't make massive changes to menu settings. After having got your major burst of action, you can change back to whatever way you've set your preferences.

Thanks, Bob. I might try going from Manual (AF-C) to Auto (AF-S), this should be quick enough for me

yeah unfortunately us D70 series users (and maybe D50 too?) miss out on a dedicated focus mode switch.

D2 series gets an extra AF/MF style switch with C/S/M

The AF Nikon SLR has this dedicated button, and DSLR start to put down the cost in reducing number of knobs and buttons so it is easier to assemble/manufacture maybe?

On the D200 and D2, they both have AF mode selector in the front, C,S and M modes, and the 4 AF sub-modes on the back. Single, Dynamic, Group-Dynamic and Closet-Priority. So making AF changes in fraction of a second without going through menu. These bodies also have dedicated image review and image setting buttons, so you wont zoom into the image if you only wanted to change the ISO etc...

I think these are all just couple nifty things that can make a shoot happen faster, tho might be very important for someone who has to change AF modes quite often.
