105mm VR Hood?Wondering if anyone owns a Nikon 105mm micor VR can tell me if the hood reverse mounts over the lens body for storage?
most lenses do, but this one looks like it might be too narrow? also, any pics of using this lens as a ultra close up portrait lens?
I will let you know shortly. Mine is sitting in Sydney waiting on customs clearance.

Macro Lense OptionsAs I am useless at the Search Function (although I tried), I too am interested in opinions on this lense (Nikon 105VR), but also a comparison with the Sigma offerings.
I am interested in the Sigma 150mm Macro, due mainly to reviews that I have considered via Internet searches, and it's value in comparison to the Nikon 105VR. D300, D200, (D70 - now with daughter) and heaps of Nikon stuff.

Re: Macro Lense Options
I have the Sigma 150 macro and am very happy with it. I went that way over the shorter ones to give some "stand off" capability. I was going to the 180, but decided to compromise due to the slightly smaller depth of field with the longer lens. Of course this can be an advantage sometimes. It is a solid lens with tripod collar that works well and of course that lovely BIG f2.8 glass, but note that there is no VR. This should not be a big issue, I feel, as it should be used on a tripod anyway. Great value too! Col Photography. The Art of Seeing, Not Just Looking

Re: 105mm VR Hood?
Heh, not sure what you're getting at with this question, but I found the 10.5mm fish-eye an interesting ultra close-up portrait lens... Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
perfect, thanks YiP. I was looking in Nikon folder, and could seen anything when searched for 105mm micro. great review, and thanks!
Re: Macro Lense Options
I want it for two reasons. Firstly, so I can focus up close, and tight on headshots. Secondly, for night time, flash, and "drag the shutter" shots, can go a little deeper DOF, with VR!!! I'm not planning to shoot bugs and things, I'll leave that to the experts.
Re: Macro Lense Options
You will get tight head shots out of the 105 without tapping its macro abilities. Heck, you will get tight head shots with an 85mm without having to get very close. Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
Re: Macro Lense Options
Its a combination of minimum focus distance, and focal length. my 85mm cant get as close as I want, and I love VR. I can drag down very slow, with more depth than my 1.4.
As stated from my review there... you can't sustain f/2.8 when focusing closer than 1.5m. Which when you get real close, you might end up with a 105mm f/3.5 or something... with the VR's help.. will it beat 85mm @ f/1.4?? I can't say it beats the 85/1.4, but VR does have its advantages, sometimes....
Re: Macro Lense Options
it's pretty heavy. do you find that an issue at all ? have seen shots from it and seen the tests, it is outstanding optically but would be interested to hear your views on how well it works. EM1 l 7.5 l 12-40 l 14 l 17 l 25 l 45 l 60 l 75 l AW1 l V3
yes and no, depends on your application. I was interested (and still am), to see some ultra close up portraits, say, close up on eyes or mouth. to get this close, need close focus, and to get lots of detail in the eyes/teeth. skin blemishes taken care of in PP. so folks, where atre the ultra close ups, with this, or other lens...
