				18 - 70 lens AFS DX - 'sharpness'

				Hi all
I just upgraded to a D200 from D70s. I also bought a new 18 - 70 AFS DX lens. Images on the D200 do not seem as 'sharp' as those on the D70s. Any one similar experience?

Are you shooting JPEG or RAW? If JPEG, put in some in camera sharpening, if in RAW do it Post Processing (you can always do the sharpening Post with JPEG as well if you want to as well).
The D200 has a stronger anti-alias filter than the D70(s) and will make the images straight out of camera look a little softer. This is so easily fixed up and then the images from the D200 just take on a life of their own. The 18-70 DX is a good pairing for the D200 still and you can get some great images with it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am using jpeg. I had thought about the on-camera 'sharpening' but wondered if it may have been the new lens or even perhaps the camera. Your reply clears the matter up. Thanks again.

Kewl I picked up something myself from reading this and did a test play with the Optimize Image on my D200/18 - 70 AFS DX setup and i do like the More vivid setting...

i use the 18-70 for what i would consider 'critical work' when stopped to f8.
even wide open its not too bad.
just a litle bit of USM and correct focusing, the shots are a treat.
