10.5 Fisheye lens cover

Postby jben_net on Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:31 pm

Hello People,

Just to share my frustrations:

Shot a wedding on the weekend, and misplaced my 10.5mm fisheye lens cover. Of all my lens covers I had to loose this one. The others can be replaced - but this one seems to be more difficult because of its unique shape.

Yesterday I rang maxwell, who told me to ring nikon, who said it wasn't classed as an accessory and then told me to ring up camera house, I rang camera house and they said they'd call me back, and I have not heard from them.

Its a stupid piece of plastic but I need it to protect my investment :)

I don't suppose anyone else has found themselves in a similar situation?

That certainly is a bit of misfortune. As an interim until you do locate a replacement, perhaps you could make one out of black cardboard or rubber.

Hmm yeah I was thinking it could come to this.... I might head down to the hardware store and have a look around.... but I do want to sell it down the track for the 16mm 2.8 when I go FX, so eventually I would like a proper replacement so I can sell it for a reasonable price, but I can do the handyman thing in the interum if I have to.

Also - who should I be badgering for this? Retail or Nikon? ....maxwell?

I'd really like to know who's responsible for this area..... it just seems they are all passing the buck so to speak.

I would say it has a genuine part number, which should be in the manual that came with the lens (and it will also be on the part, somewhere) and if yo're armed with that number, you should be able to ask Nikon to order one in for you.

I just checked and there is no part # on the cover, unless the # 19 inside is it. The papers that come with it only mention the cover without a #.

My fisheye cap has the No 61 stamped on the inside, and from checking B&H & Adorama that seems to be the only description code there is that's required.
