Gadget request.... Nikon

Is there a cable which will connect from the D200 to a laptop that enables
photographs taken to immediately show on a laptop as well as still allowing normal writing to the CF card?.

Wanting it for an upcoming "hair salon" shoot.

The stylists want to see the lighting etc as we go so obviously the laptop idea seems the best.

I really don't want to download the card continually as this will be too time consuming. I'm sure Nikon make such a device. I don't think the standard USB cable will do the job......?

Cheers

Hi Tony I think you are limited to USB2 speeds and a USB plug, working with Nikon Capture. I tried it once and hated it! I'm sure that people here can shed light on their opinions also (that may not be so negative!) however.

There is but I think you need the correct version of NIKON capture....and it is not a cheap program.

Standard USB cord and Nikon Capture 4 Camera Control software. ($$$)

Images will be captured to the PC not the CF. :(

Pages 107/108 in the D200 book. (under PTP).

Does it frustrate the nikon users that you have to buy the software to get the functionality out of the camera? Canon provides all of theirs for free, It perplexes me that nikon do not, you paid enough for the camera in the first place..

Pity Canon's software is so wiggy Big V! That's why they give it away for free

Seriously tho, I do find it frustrating. I use Nikon Capture Camera Control (which is actually a lot more stable than Canon's software) and then view in Bridge as I shoot. Load times (for the D200 files) are pretty quick on an Intel Macbook - comparable to a Canon EOS 1ds shooting to Capture One.

Just wish Capture One (as much as I hate the bug plagued software) worked with Nikons.

Nikon Camera Control Pro, though it is unavailable at the moment. I think iit is waiting on mods to make it compatible with D3/D300.

It writes to the computer though, not the CF card, so it is not exactly what you asked for.

Nikon Capture 4 will work, but is no longer available

You can also add a wireless connection

that will remove the tether

I have done this with my D70 and Capture Control 4. I thought it actually worked very well. I used it for the lunar eclipse and I set it to capture NEF + JPEG so I could review the JPEG as I worked.

Capture 4 is still available:

Thanks for that info though I am wary.
I ordered a copy of Capture 4 specifically to get tethered shooting. I received a copy of of Capture NX. Guess what is missing from NX.
To be fair, not from that supplier though.

I have used the trial version of Control Pro & love it. However my trial expired & so far I have been unable to source a copy to buy.

The problem I keep having with the Nikon Mall is the need to supply an address in the USA. I can't do that HAL.
