CaptureNX 1.3 Update

Postby ATJ on Wed Nov 28, 2007 8:36 am

For people that already have CaptureNX, you can get an update to 1.3 from the link below.

For those that don't, you can download the 1.1 trail version and the update to get to a trial version (30 days) of 1.3.

Stupid Nikon.

It appears the "Updater" is a full version and you have to uninstall the previous version first.

But, but, but...

Precautions

* This Updater Software operates from the file titled NX1.3_EN.EXE. Download NX1.3_EN.EXE to your computer and run the file. This Updater Software updates Capture NX Ver. 1.0.0–1.2.0 to Ver. 1.3.0;

* Any version of Capture NX from Ver. 1.0.0 to Ver. 1.2.0 must be installed before proceeding with this update;

Stupid Nikon.

The previous version must be installed so they can tell you to uninstall it.

Yep.

Capture 4 used exactly the same (absence of) logic.

I had a further look around and found this:

http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/ni ... aqid=14428

This one downloads CNX130NSAEN.EXE which is in fact an updater. And despite the instructions/license agreement saying it is 1.2, it did in fact update my copy to 1.3.0

This is a procedure that many software companies use for updates. I suppose it’s done to protect against piracy :wink:

The file size suggests it's a full installer. Seems to be about the same size as the other one - 62MB.

Gary,

It may be a full package, but it didn't make me uninstall and when I launched 1.3 it remembered previous settings (which are probably in the Registry, anyway).

Maybe they've fixed the text since you downloaded.
I hope they haven't "fixed" the install process too. Waiting on download to complete.

I was referring to the text within the updater itself, not what was online.

ok i downloaded the update and i have some major gripes here.

the drop downs for raw adjustments on the left side under camera settings have dissappeared. its now just all the exif but cannot be changed. the only way to change the raw figures is to go to the raw adjustments on the right side of the toolbar in the adjustments pallet. this ads anumber of clicks and increases the time taken to make quick adjustments.

the crop feature that was "fixed" in capture 1.2, still requires you to double click on the crop rather than just hit enter. if you slightly miss the crop lines the crop disappears.

the feature for altering colour space has either moved to a place i don;t know where or disappeared altogether. so i can;t change between colour modes. i found that quite handy in the past.

is this the same with everyone else or am i doing something wrong ? stupid nikon. stupid nikon.

I never used those anyway. Camera Settings takes up too much screen real estate. I was/am more than happy with using the controls on the right.

I hate the crop feature altogether as it doesn't tell you what the cropped size will be. You can set the aspect ratio, but not the cropped size. I do my cropping in PSP9.

Do you mean "Color Profile" under the "Adjust" menu?

um.. under the "Adjust" menu.

I have "File", "Edit", "Adjust", "Control Point", "Filter", "Batch", "View", "Window", "Help", so it is the 3rd from the left or the 7th from the right.

no thats not it. i mean that you used to be able to adjust colour modes. maybe those profiles are the same thing and i just have to find which ones. they were called colour mode I, mode Ia, mode II, mode III, mode IIIa.

i dunno, just take some getting used to i guess. i'm not happy with the new version so far i have to say.

Support for Picture Control has been added. A Picture Control item has been added to Camera Adjustments in the Base Adjustments. The Color Mode, Tone Compensation, Saturation and Sharpening items in Camera Adjustments, as well as the Hue Adjustment in RAW Adjustments, have been moved to the new Picture Control item;

Right hand side, Base Adjustments->Camera Adjustments->Picture Control.
