ISO Shootout: D300 versus D200, D40 and Canon 5D

OK, so it is Ken Rockwell so maybe take it with a grain of salt. I find he normally across as a poster boy for Nikon but in this case he is not too happy about the high ISO performance of the D300. While the images appear to have less noise, he says it is because the images are smeared.

I don't have a D300 so I can't test it myself. Is he testing this incorrectly or does he have a bad camera?
