I don't know why people are so surprised/happy/excited that the D3 has less noise than the 1Ds III. It has near half the MP's on the same size sensor, of course there will be less noise.

Yeah I was about to say

12mp vs 22mp.

Its just that the past few years the nikon crowd has been noise-bashed to death and now they feel its their turn to bash canon crowd.

Well whatever makes them feel good

I don't think there has been that much canon bashing, well atleast not on this forum. It's more Nikon users celebrating that finally we get better noise performance.

Everybody wants to defend their own decision and brand.... it's human nature.

It's the same as saying how much better a D300 is than a 40D - When a 40D is almost $1000 cheaper.

I think you can't properly compare either of the two sets because they are all very different cameras.

In all fairness even I am impressed with the D3 and D300 and kudos to Nikon for delivering top products.

What im waiting(and saving up) is a new 5D model. Hopefully Canon has been shaken out of their comfort zones now!

Well my two cents is that both Nikon and Canon make excellent cameras. For far too long Canon has been in front of Nikon in terms of high impact releases and, as a Nikon owner, it's good to see there is FINALLY a decent low noise choice from Nikon. As for how a D300 or a D3 stacks up against a Canon - I don't give a rat's rear end nor do I see any value in pointing it out other than as an idle curiosity. Bottom line is I've invested in Nikon glass so I'm only interested in a Nikon even if there was a better Canon. And I'm not a ship jumper in the same way you won't see me zip in and out of traffic lanes to arrive 2 minutes earlier at my destination.

So of more interest to me are comparisons within a brand (eg some recent comparisons of a Nikon D2x with a Nikon D300).

I agree with Peter that's one reason why I posted the D300 and D200 comparison. Enjoy Sorry Peter haven't been able to find a site comparing the D2x and D300 this quantitatively.
