85mm f1.4 update ?

Postby chrisk on Sun Jan 06, 2008 6:55 pm

i've been trying to find one of these used for a while and they are rare to say the least. before i lash out and buy one from poon, has anyone heard anything about an 85mm update for the PMA's ? i know there has been rumours forever about nikon updating their primes i suppose and hoping for an af-s version. any thoughts/ predictions/ rumours/ guesses ?

Nothing but heresay. It is still a fantastic lens and owners are reluctant to sell them.

I'm biased, but I reckon that if an "improved" 85/1.4 is released, the original ones will become even more sought after. Buy one now while you can, is my advice!

AFS on this lens will give you nothing except more failure modes, I suspect, and what the inevitable change in the optical formula does to the optical characteristics is anybody's guess.

Cheers

If you are really after this lens, just buy it. That's all I will say.

Once you shoot first 5 photos with it, a super-glue like substance leaked from the lens mount. Mine got stuck with my camera body, can't get it out. I think this is the reason there is no 2nd hand version for sale, because they're all stuck... Wondering if Nikon gonna fix this on the newer updated version?
