Have you ever spoken with a sales rep or overheard a sales rep sell cameras?
The times I've dealt with them, they sell on features, not IQ or lens legacy or any of the other reasons that some of us would buy a D40 rather than a 400D or equivilent pentax/olympus
models.
At this end of the market, it's all about matching features, keeping up with the competition, marketing gimmicks, etc etc etc.
