[d70] bracketing questions

Postby Gwarh on Sat Mar 29, 2008 12:20 pm

1) When using bracketing on a d70 is it normal for it to only record 1 image being taken, even though 3 acctual different exposures are recorded on the memory card?

I ask because I was playing with it a few days ago (new to my d70) and no matter what I tried with bracketing enabled, it only recorded 1 picture being taken for each press of the shutter. Perhaps this is normal I thought and I was supposed to take each exposure manual with three presses of the shutter and the camera would auto change the exposures for me. Sort of a semi-automated bracketing, but it didn't seem to change anything at all the 2nd and 3rd shots I took.

2) A second question, is bracketing availible in "Auto" mode? Although I don't use it often, I just wanted to know. As it was the only mode I couldn't seem to get bracketing enabled on. I wanted to know if I was doing something incorrectly with the settings, or if it just isn't availible in auto.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, this is normal for exposure bracketing. One bracketed exposure for each press. The camera will remember if you're part way through a sequence, even if you turn it off.

For WB bracketing, it will do the necessary work with just one press of the shutter button.

you can use bracketing in 2 different ways. single shot, and it will change for each shot you take like digitor mentioned. or you can use continuous shooting mode and hold the shutter release down until all shots have been taken.

for continuous mode you need to set how many photos you wish to take in bracketing (2 or 3), set how much exposure difference between the shots and set the camera to continuous shooting mode. hold the shutter release down until it takes 2 or 3 photos (whatever you selected).

for quicker sequential shots turn off long exp noise reduction. if you have selected 3 shots, sometimes it will only take 2 photos if the subject is too dark ie. shutter speed too slow

Thank you to both of you, Digitor and Wider. It's now much clearer to me.

We have a number of tutorials on this site, and one of them is about bracketing using the D70:

It might be a useful reference for you.
