Hi everyone,
Have any of you with the D300 grip been experiencing any unresponsiveness issues?

I was shooting a dance comp around 2 weeks ago and occasionally the grip would either lose shutter release function (no half press AF or release), lose function of the multi selector, or lose function of all buttons (half press AF, shutter release, multi selector centre and in each 4 directions. But i cant remember if the AF ON button was still working).

Cycling the camera on and off would sometimes relieve the problem, then it would return again intermittently. yes, i did miss shots as a result.
Can't remember which lens i had on when it happened but i'm pretty sure it was the 70-200VR. There is a bit of discussion on other forums about this issue.. but most seem to be having far more catastrophic problems than i am (eg. no power at all, unfunctional shutter release on grip and body, etc)

just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions apart from clean the F mount, clean CPU contacts, clean body contacts, send lens and body + grip in for service? it hasnt happened since so yeah.. i have 2 weeks until the next comp

I sometimes notice that the command dials don't alter the assigned settings, or that the direction joystick fails to reassign the focus points. I suspect that this is because the image is still being displayed though, which brings the issues I've seen back to one of operator error.

No issues at my end as of yet.

Unmount the grip, clean the contacts with Eclipse or methanol, remount it??

I'm not too sure about this, but from just pics i seen so far, the MB-D10 has no insert into the battery chamber as the D200. Not sure how sturdy it can be with only a support point from the tripod mount. I assume it has 'braces' that holds the body in place, but it might have moved because of the 70-200VR weight you had in front?

Gary, that is exactly the problem i am having occasionally. However, there was no image on the screen on each of the occasions (shooting in the dark, the reason for unresponsiveness would be obvious )

Yi-P, you are correct - it has little braces/studs to align it and keep it steady - and it does a great job. i will clean the contacts again before the next big shoot and see how we go..
as for the 70-200VR, it did seem to happen mostly with that lens. & i also held the rig by the grip only (silly/lazy) so i guess that might've made things worse..

I have no problems with the MBD10 yet, although the '5000 shutter deaths' haunts me...

Why not try the lens combo without the MB-D10 attached and see if it still happens.

That's not going to work, as the problem is that the controls on the MB-D10 seem to occasionally fail to operate on the camera. Remove the MD-D10 and you also remove the controls that seem to be problematic, therefore the problem, by definition, goes away.

I have had no problems with the MB-D10 and D300. It is on the camera permanently (obviously) and never misses a beat. The only annoying thing is how sensitive the shutter release is but that doesn't matter that much, in fact it has helped occasionally when I needed to take a quick burst of images and wasn't going to initially!!!
