D3 review up at DPR

Here's the link:- http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD3/

Phil Askey summary says:- "......we can confirm that from an image quality and performance point of view the D3 raises the bar by a fair degree. For a sports camera it's also a surprisingly good studio and landscape camera, and if there's a better DSLR out there for photojournalists and red carpet paps we've yet to meet it. Image quality (especially at higher ISOs) is stunning, the camera a joy to use and the speed and responsiveness breathtaking. If there is an EOS-1Ds Mark III - bating 'D3X' coming this year it will have quite a job to do to better the D3; possibly the most compelling, capable and well-rounded professional digital SLR ever made."

"MY camera company is better"
"no MY camera company is better."

I refuse to read the forums in DPReview these days. I browse the reviews and that's it.

IMO it has moved from a forum about photography to a brand-name fanboy site.

For some reason most of the posters are seeking to justify their own purchases or slag those who have bought a different brand. The quality of dialogue and images here is far superior.

So much for having unmoderated forums.

Trevor I think you are m9issding the point a little. Yes the forum is full of wankers, but the reviews are seperate to the forum and very well respected.

Every forum has its wankers - we have even HAD a few on this one. I really like DPReview for both its reviews and an amazing number of really top class photographers showing their pics. I also use it for the Mac forum.

Ignore the idiots and get some real info from the others :)

Of course there is some good stuff on the forum Chris, I browse it every day, but it definitely does have more than it's fair share of the others. :D

Having handled both a D3 and 1Dmk2 I can say without a doubt that the image quality is definitely far more superior at high iso's on the D3 than any canon offering.

Handling characteristics and menus will be a personal preference but the image quality is fairly objective and the D3 shows what FF is capable of with new sensor tech coupled with low MP...ask any D3 owner they can't stop bragging about it.

Don't give a rats about rantings, I just hope Canon and other makers rise to the challenge as competition is what fuels progress (just look at the 5D's lack of competition and you can see Canon dragging their feet)...my only concern is the whole MP race going into FF territory meaning we may never have a really capable 25600 ISO camera.

I agree, John.

Did you read my post? :)

And Chris, I think there are some talented photographers there, but you have to get through an awful lot of crap too.
