Colour mode on D2Xs

Postby D2Xs David on Wed May 14, 2008 1:30 am

Firstly hello to forum members, this is my first post. So how many of you with D2Xs's play around with the colour mode. ie mode I or mode III. Nikon say mode one for portraits, III for landscapes. Mode III gives great strong colours but makes skin tones look red, were as mode I is a little cold I recon. They need a Fuji S3 mode with good punchy colours and great skin tones.

I have settled for mode I for my wedding and portrait work. I just wish the colours were just a bit more punchy. What do you people recon? I use mode III when I am doing motocross.

I will post up some images for commet.

just in case some d300 users haven't realise, the D2x curves are available to you. check nikon official website. You can also download the AGFA and Fuji curves (Astia, Velvia, Optima). If lost, pm me.
Sorry if this is off topic, feel free to tell me off.

Personally i preferred Mode 1 and the Astia.

Colour mode I, II or III indicates the colour space you are working on.

Colour space II is Adobe colour space, and Space III indicates sRGB mode. I'm not exactly sure about mode I, someone can work this one for me.

For what between the III and II is its red and green space. In the III they are more compressed and are suitable for punchier colour, but you will get 'clippings' if you are shooting JPEG. I usually shoot in the II mode and then covert it into sRGB if needed. But usually I prefer mode II because of its more natural and little bit more detail you can get out of the colours.

When I owned the D2X I used Mode II only. That way I knew exactly what to expect under any circumstances. I like predictability.

With the D3 I have added the D2X colour modes as well, but still tend to use only one.
