Hmm ...looks interesting...I wonder what the point of the 2.8 on a wide angle?

I think f/2.8 can be very useful for wide angles too. I mean, wide angle doesn't have to mean its for landscapes and that you are going to use a tripod.

you mean for close focusing and blurring out the background?

Not much a of a zoom on this lens I suppose. It would have to be better than the 12-24, 10-22 for it to be popular especially at a high price that they are advertising.

I would see many points for a fast aperture on a wide angle:

1. Better focusing
2. Better display in the viewfinder
3. Potentially better image quality at, say, f4 compared to a wide angle which has a widest aperture of f4
4. Etc.

I have the Tokina 12-24, and I like it a lot, but the reviews I've seen of this new one have all been consistently stellar

tried a friend's one, sharper than nikon 12-24, but limited in range, reviews say treat it as a prime and you'll be right...
i'm surprised third party lenses haf advanced so much these days... if i could start over i would go tokina 11-16, tamron 17-50, sigma 50-150, and 1.4 TC. done... cheap as sharp as system. [thumbs up]
