I have an old manual lens but I am having focussing it using the D300. Has anyone installed the katz eyes? Seems to be a lot of hassle.

I have been tempted to have one installed but have been scared off by the process. Maybe you can find a technician in AUST that is comfortable with installing one for you. They are a great idea.

Keep us posted on how you are going with this idea.

So you're talking about the viewfinder is too small to focus? It's really no problem, I shot some photos of the PMA with only manual focus lenses, now that was some hassle... I also have quite a few of the fast AiS primes as well, and I know the key to get accurate focusing is to first practice and know which way is to draw back to pull towards the focusing plane and then the second thing is to keep an eye out for the rangefinder confirmation dot on the bottom left.

I have these AiS lenses 28mm f2, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2 and the 180 f2.8.

eekkkk.. Dont think I'll be trying that one at all. But it would be nice to have some focus help with the 200 f2.0 . I'm slowly getting better, found it much easier with a monopod also.

Katzeyes screens will give you an old style split screen for manually focusing your image. A lot of AF SLRs dont have this aid, so manually focusing is a lot harder to do accurately.

I installed a katzeye in my D70. Not all that difficult.

I found the manual focus telephotos to be amazingly hard to focus anyway...

Live view on tripod mode is ok, but it is still not the same as via a viewfinder, you lose some stability if it is not on a tripod or another support. Give me a ground glass or split screen anyday.
